An initial consultation is essential for us to be able to understand your injury, needs and expectations. After a consultation form is completed by you, we will talk and discuss what will happen next by making short and long term goals. A range of structural tests we will be used to be able to diagnose injuries and we can also complete fitness tests to be able to understand where your current fitness levels are. Once this has been completed we will then return to discuss our findings and where we go from here. This may be a case of hands on treatment including Sports Massage, Mobilisations, Electrotherapy, Trigger Point Therapy, Cryotherapy, Heat Therapy, Muscle Energy Techniques and Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation. We then may and go utilise the gym equipment to be able to show Stretching and Strengthening Techniques to be able to complete at home or in your own gym. This then could lead us on to completing Strength and Conditioning for you injury to enhance your rehabilitation.  On request we will be able to then create a rehabilitation plan dependant on your needs.

Sports massage is a form of massage involving the manipulation of soft tissue to benefit a person engaged in regular physical activity. Sports massage is designed to assist in correcting problems and imbalances in soft tissue that are caused from repetitive and strenuous physical activity and trauma. The application of sports massage, prior to and after exercise, can enhance performance, aid recovery and prevent injury.

There are many benefits of a Sports Massage such as relieving acute and chronic muscle pain, speeds up recovery from events and training sessions, increases mental focus, increases energy and stamina, improves range of motion and flexibility and enhances athletic performance.

Deep tissue massage uses firm pressure and slow strokes to reach deeper layers of muscle and fascia (the connective tissue surrounding muscles). It's used for chronic aches and pain and contracted areas such as a stiff neck and upper back, low back pain, leg muscle tightness, and sore shoulders.

The benefits of a deep tissue massage include reducing lower back, neck or osteoarthritis pain, sciatica,  repetitive strain injury, improving postural issues, increasing mobility and aid and prevent muscular tension.

Rehabilitation is the process to regain full function following injury and involves restoring strength, flexibility, balance, endurance and power. It is achieved through various exercises and drills. The aim of a rehabilitation program is to regain pre-injury levels in all aspects of physical fitness. A full rehabilitation and strengthening program is essential to ensure full recovery and in order to prevent re-injuries. We will tailor a rehabilitation plan to suit you and suit your injury to assure you make a safe and effective recovery. During the session we will spend the time working towards rehabilitating you using the gym and a range of other equipment.

What is acupuncture for sports injuries?

Acupuncture is a type of alternative medicine and a key component of traditional Chinese medicine, involves using thin, sharp needles to stimulate certain points along the skin to impact the nerves and change the flow of energy in the body as well as promote increased blood flow to stimulate healing. It has also been linked to increasing white blood cell and serotonin levels, which boost weak immune systems and improve a person’s feeling of well-being and happiness.

Utilising acupuncture to treat sports-related injuries began centuries ago for quick healing in the martial arts. It’s now used by professional sports teams all across the world.
